Welcome to the result of my positivity practice. It’s been a while since I sent one of these out, but things have been wildly busy and now seems like the right time for a message of positivity. I hope this finds you well, and that you enjoy.
A Song: My friend by Groove Armada is a really nice, fun song that makes you remember why you treasure the people you choose to fill your life with.
A Picture:
This is a picture of the Grand Canyon at sunrise, and it has to be one of the coolest pictures I’ve ever taken. If you haven’t been, go.
Some Inspiration:
The Ministry for the Future by Kim Stanley Robinson. I just finished this book and it caused me to send out this newsletter. It reads like a future history of climate change and I highly recommend it. The book follows several characters with interweaving lives. It’s both terrifying in terms of what we have to look forward to, and hopeful, as it follows humanity’s effort to tackle the problem (with some success). There are a lot of interesting ideas explored, and it’s very much worth a read.

Bionic Reading. This is a way of speeding up your reading while increasing comprehension and it really seems to work. It bolds a few key letters in each word, which allows your brain to rapidly recognize the word without getting bogged down by letters that aren’t needed for that task. There’s a Chrome extension, a drop in text converter, and an API. If you’re reading long documents, this can be a real help. If you haven’t figured it out yet, this text has been converted using the Bionic Reading app.

Can we create new senses? This TED talk knocked my socks off, and I strongly recommend that everyone watch it. In it, David Eagleman discusses research his lab is doing into developing new ways for the human brain to interpret data from the world. Ex. How do you get a totally deaf person to “hear” words?
